State Merit Scholarship, Manipur 2023-24 is an opportunity offered by the Directorate of University & Higher Education, Manipur, for students who have taken admission to first-year general undergraduate, postgraduate, or equivalent degree course. The scheme aims to provide financial support to economically disadvantaged students pursuing higher education within the country. The selected students will receive an award of up to ₹7,500 per annum.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • have a domicile in Manipur
    • have passed Class 12 or equivalent exam from an institution recognised by the Board of Education, including Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) OR
    • have passed degree or equivalent exams from a recognised institute
    • have secured admission in general degree course (BA/B.Sc./B. Com, etc., integrated courses included) OR
    • have secured admission in postgraduate courses (MA/M.Sc./M. Com, etc.) in the relevant discipline in a university/college/institution recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC)
    • have secured a minimum percentage of 60% marks in the previous qualifying examination
    • have an annual family income of not more than ₹4,50,000 

    The following applicants are ineligible for the scholarship:

    • Students admitted with a gap academic year.
    • Students pursuing courses/programs through open universities.
    • Students enrolled in private/deemed universities.
    • Students already availing scholarships for pursuing the undergraduate/postgraduate programme under any other scheme(s).
    • Students admitted through 'management quota.'
    • Students pursuing technical or professional courses.
    • Students whose annual parent(s) income is more than  ₹4,50,000.
    Benefits

    The selected candidates will receive a one-time financial grant as follows:

    Note:- Rates of scholarship and number of seats are subject to modification from time to time by the Government. 

    Documents
    • Aadhaar Card
    • Marksheet of the last qualifying examination
    • Bank passbook (containing all details of the account) of the student's bank account
    • Admission receipt for admission to 1st year (for 1st year) OR 2nd/3rd year, etc. (for renewal) of the UG/PG course
    • Domicile/permanent residential certificate of current year issued by Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/Subdivisional Officer of the concerned District 
    • Income certificate issued by Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/Subdivisional Officer of the concerned District 
    How can you apply?

    Eligible students can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
    Step 1:
    Click on the 'Apply Now' link below. 
    Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
    Step 3: Navigate to the 'Applicant Corner' and click on the 'New Registration' tab.
    Step 4: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Continue' button. 
    Step 5: Select the respective Aadhaar option, enter mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, and submit.  
    Step 6: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the registration process. 
    Step 7: Now click on the 'Fresh Application' tab and log in using the application ID and password.
    Step 8: Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application.

    Note: All the applicants are advised to fill the form correctly, no changes can be made once submitted. The applicants are also advised to fill in only one application as multiple applications will cancel the form.

Selection Criteria

There will be two-level verification of the application. First-level verification is at the Institute level by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) nominated for the purpose by the principal and the second-level verification is at the State level by the State Nodal Officer nominated for the purpose by the Government. 

After reviewing the applications, the candidates will be selected based on merit and fulfillment of the eligibility criteria.

Note:- The scholarship scheme does not have reservations or quotas based on category, religion, or gender.

  • Selected students will receive the scholarship amount through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode via PFMS into their verified bank accounts.

For renewal:

  • Renewal of the scholarship is applicable for one academic year at a time, and eligible beneficiaries must fill out the renewal application form on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) annually throughout the course.
  • For the first renewal, the student must have passed the first-year exam or been promoted to the second year with admission to the second-year class.
  • If a student has pending backlog papers for more than one year or is not promoted to the next class, the scholarship will not be awarded for the remaining years of the course.
  • The scholarship cannot be transferred if the awardee changes the institution or course during the scholarship tenure.
  • The Institute Nodal Officer (INO) can choose to send applications back to students to fix any errors before making a final decision. They may verify the applications on a daily basis such that the applicants may get ample time for correction and re-submission of their rectified forms.
